How to manually manage Drive blocks and affiliate links

Learn how to change the position of Drive blocks and hide individual affiliate links on a web page.

Drive automatically places recommendation blocks on your website pages and adds affiliate links to relevant parts of the text. With the visual editor, you can reposition blocks, remove blocks you do not need, and hide individual links.

The editor is only visible to you. Visitors see the page without the editing panel.

Before you start

Make sure Drive is installed on your website and working on the page you want to edit.

Open the editor in Google Chrome:

  • in a regular browser window, not in Incognito mode;
  • with your ad blocker disabled;
  • with third-party cookies allowed.

These conditions allow Travelpayouts to verify that you are signed in and load the editor panel.

How to open the visual editor

  1. Sign in to the Travelpayouts account associated with the website you want to edit.
  2. Open the page you want to configure on your website.
  3. Add the ?visual-editor parameter to the page URL. For example: https://example.com/article/?visual-editor.
  4. Press Enter. The editor panel will appear in the bottom-right corner of the page.

If the page URL already contains query parameters, add &visual-editor instead of ?visual-editor.

What you will see in the editor

Drive blocks are outlined on the page, and affiliate links are marked with a link icon. The editor panel has two tabs:

  • Blocks — blocks already placed on the page, blocks available to add, and the Save and Remove all actions;
  • Links — all affiliate links in the text, including hidden links.

When you open the editor, it shows the page’s current state: Drive’s automatic placement or your previously saved changes.

How to manage blocks

Move a block

  1. Click the block on the page. The selected block will be highlighted.

  2. Click between paragraphs where you want to move the block.

You can also select a block on the page or in the panel and use the up and down arrows to move it.

To cancel the selection, press Esc or click outside the article. The block will remain in its original position.

Add a block

  1. Open the Blocks tab and find the Add blocks section.
  2. Click Add next to the block you want to use.
  3. Click between paragraphs where you want the block to appear.

Available blocks depend on the page content.

The Add blocks section only shows blocks available for the current page. If a block is not listed, you cannot add it to that page.

Remove a block

  1. Hover over the block.
  2. Click Remove in the panel that appears.

To reset the manual placement of all blocks on the page, click Remove all, then click Save. Drive will resume placing blocks automatically.

How to manage affiliate links

On the Links tab, you can check where each link leads, hide it, or restore it.

Check a link’s destination

  • The destination domain, such as booking.com, appears below the link name in the panel.
  • Hover over a link in the panel to see its full URL.
  • Hover over a link in the text to see its destination domain.

Clicking a link in the editor selects it instead of opening it. To visit the destination, click Open in the panel above the link or use the open-in-new-tab icon in the list.

Hide or restore a link

To hide a link: select it on the page and click Remove link, or click Remove in the list.

A hidden link remains visible in the editor and is marked as removed. After you save the changes, visitors will see plain text without a link.

To restore a link: click Restore in the panel above the link or in the list. Use the Removed filter to quickly find all hidden links.

How to save or undo changes

  1. Click Undo to reverse your last action.
  2. Click Save to apply the new block placement and link changes.
  3. Wait until you see the Saved status.

Remember to save your changes

Unsaved changes will not be applied, and visitors will continue to see the previous version of the page.

Important details

  • You can place only one block of each available type on a page.
  • You can restore a hidden link at any time.
  • If you significantly change the page template or structure, check the block positions and configure them again if necessary.
  • The editor interface language depends on the page language.
  • To view the tips again, click the ? icon in the editor panel.

Troubleshooting

The editor panel does not appear

Check that:

  • you are signed in to the Travelpayouts account associated with this website;
  • the page URL contains the ?visual-editor or &visual-editor parameter;
  • the page is open in Google Chrome and not in Incognito mode;
  • your ad blocker is disabled and third-party cookies are allowed;
  • Drive is installed on the website and working on this page.

The changes do not appear on the website

Return to the editor and make sure you clicked Save and saw the Saved status.

The block you need is not listed

Drive only shows blocks available for the current page. If a block type is not listed in the Add blocks section, you cannot add it in the editor.

A hidden link reappears

This can happen after the page text changes. Open the editor, hide the link again, and save your changes.

How to restore automatic block placement

On the Blocks tab, click Remove all, then click Save. Drive will resume placing blocks on the page automatically.
